Much Better Today From Derby

Preston 0 Derby County 1

A vastly improved performance after Friday's debacle. It wasn't free-flowing football but a ground out win, with the Rams looking comfortable for most of the game.

It looked like we were in for the same bad luck that has been haunting us recently, when the referee awarded a very controversial penalty to Preston, who thankfully spurned the ref's very generous gift.

The stats show that Preston had 18 shots to Derby's 2, but Preston rarely, if ever, looked like scoring. Stats can often tell a different story to how the game was really played.

If Derby could only learn to string a few more passes together us fans would be far less stressed out. Rowett wants Derby to get the ball forward quickly from the back, which is the right thing to do, but that doesn't excuse inaccurate passing and poor decisions.

Abysmal Sums up Derby County Performance

Derby County 1 Sunderland 4

I've seen some pretty dire performances from the Rams, especially in recent years, but Good Friday 2018 must rank as one of the worst I've seen. We made a very poor team look good.

I don't like running players down and going in for character assassination, because it's not nice and just undermines the team I support. I'm fairly sure the players know they were appalling and need to learn how to pass the ball to a team-mate.

Gary Rowett is coming in for a lot of criticism but I fail to see what control he has over own goals, passes straight to the opposition's striker and a poorly judged tackle in the penalty area. We basically gifted Sunderland 3 goals, presumably as some sort of Easter present.

I think we mustered all of 2 shots on goal, one a cracking strike from Vydra, who in the second half contrived to put an easier chance a mile over. It's easy to say, but all he had to do was pass the ball into the net. Instead, he went for the power and the glory.

Well the players have got an early chance of redemption at Preston tomorrow. Let's hope for a much improved performance and a much-needed win.

Waxing Lyrical About Football

In due course I will be making regular comments on my beloved Derby County and the England football team.

Thought England thoroughly deserved their win tonight against a poor Holland team. Was particularly impressed with the pace, movement and pressing, especially in the first part of the second half. The substitutions slowed our play down though, with Dele Alli chiefly at fault, by giving the ball away too often.
